Applications are available below (if indicated, fillable). Email completed application, drop off at the Town Office, 40 Old Union Road, Washington; or mail to Washington Town Office, P.O. Box 408, Washington, ME 04574. Permit fees can be paid using a credit/debit card over the phone (incurs a 2.5% surcharge), in person, or by mailing a check or money order.

PLEASE NOTE: The applications below are fillable PDFs, but you must download the PDF to email it using the "submit" button.

If you wish only to print a hard copy of the completed application, there is no need to download it. All applications are available as hard copies at the town office. Please contact the town office with any questions.  

Applications are listed in preferred order of submission for residential and commercial construction. An after-the-fact fee for work done without a permit incurs an additional $250 fee, plus any other permit fees that should have been paid.

911 address application REQUIRED for all properties currently not assigned a street address/number; $25 fee.  

Driveway entrance application REQUIRED for all new driveway entrances on town roads; $25 fee.
NOTE: A state driveway entrance application (fee varies) is required for West Washington Road (Routes 206/105 toward Somerville), Razorville Road (Route 105), Augusta Road (Route 17 west), Rockland Road (Route 17 east), Liberty Road (Route 220 north of Village Monument), Waldoboro Road (Route 220 south of Village Monument) and Jefferson Road (Route 126). 

Building permit application REQUIRED for all new structures, including additions and sheds; fee varies, no fee for structures smaller than 240-square-feet.

Supplemental Shoreland permit application REQUIRED for any work in the shoreland zone; $50 fee.


Subsurface wastewater (septic) permit application REQUIRED for all new and replacement septic systems; $265 fee. 

Internal Plumbing permit application REQUIRED for new internal plumbing; fee varies based on number of fixtures.

Site Plan Review application REQUIRED for all new commercial construction; fee varies.

ADDITIONAL APPLICATIONS FOR SPECIFIC PROJECTS/SITUATIONS:

Adult Use Marijuana application For adult-use marijuana facilities. 

Appeals application For appealing a decision of the Planning Board or Code Enforcement Officer. 

Auto graveyard/junkyard application For establishing a new automobile recycling business, and/or automobile graveyard/junkyard. Requires annual renewal and inspection. 


Change of Use permit REQUIRED when there is a significant change of use (IE residential to commercial); $50 fee. 


Mining application For gravel or mineral extraction. Requires annual renewal and inspection. 


Sludge management application For storage and application of sludge materials; $150 fee.

Wireless Telecommunications Facilities application For new construction or attaching to existing tower (co-location).
